How Bad Do Rib Cage Tattoos Hurt?

My 18th birthday is in 2 weeks and my plan is to get my first tattoo. :) I want the quote “the future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams” in pretty black cursive writing. I either want it on my ribs or on my side down by my hip. I think it would look better on my ribs but I heard that it hurts super bad! I’m also very skinny. How bad do rib tattoos really hurt, will I be able to handle it or should I get it down by my hip?

No one here can tell you if you can handle it or not. Everyone has a different pain threshold. I got a tattoo down my rib cage and it hurt worse than hell. I saw someone else get one later on in life and he laid their like nothing holding a meaningful conversation with someone. Everyone is different.

Any tattoo that is done over a place without fatty tissue and where it will be hitting direct bone, is painful. Tattoos in general are painful, but it depends on a person’s tolerance to how painful it is. I’ve heard of numbing gel for tattoos, you could look into that. If anything, if you want the tattoo done on your ribs really bad, try going in for sessions. Just get like a few words done at a time or something. Btw congratulations on the upcoming birthday and new tattoo :3

I’ve got full sleeves, as well as my upper back, chest, stomach, and both sides. The side pieces run from right at my hip up to my armpit. I’ve found that people experience tattoo pain differently. The most painful spots for me were over my collarbone, the inside of my wrist, and my stomach. The ones over the ribs were, for me, not too bad. All tattoos hurt. Anyone who says they don’t is lying. Some people just deal with the pain better and areas that really hurt on some people don’t hurt as much on others. It’s all relative.
